AI for DPOs

Artificial intelligence is becoming the driving force behind the fourth industrial revolution. Organisations are increasingly integrating AI into their processes, applications and decision-making. This creates many opportunities, but also raises new questions around data protection, transparency, ethics, risk and governance.

For DPOs and privacy professionals, this means their role is evolving. In addition to advising on GDPR, they are increasingly involved in questions about AI applications, the AI Act, ethical boundaries, data use, risk management and cooperation between legal, technical and business profiles.

In this 3-day training, you gain a clear and practical understanding of artificial intelligence from the perspective of the DPO. You learn how AI works, which legal and ethical frameworks matter and how the AI Act interacts with GDPR. You also explore AI architecture, data models, risk and governance models and concrete cases where AI and data protection intersect.

The training starts and ends with an interactive AI lab. This means you do not stay in theory: you experience how AI works in practice and learn to ask the right questions to AI experts, IT, legal, compliance and management.

Target Audience

This training is intended for Data Protection Officers, privacy professionals and anyone involved in data protection, AI governance, compliance or risk management within an organisation.

It is particularly relevant for DPOs who are increasingly asked questions about AI applications, data use, ethics, AI Act compliance and the impact of AI on GDPR.

Participants should preferably have at least a theoretical knowledge of GDPR. Practical experience as a DPO or privacy professional is an advantage.

Programme

Part 1 – AI Lab

The training starts with an interactive AI lab. You are introduced to AI in a practical way and experience how AI applications work. This gives you a concrete understanding of the technology you need to advise on as a DPO.

Part 2 – Laws and regulations: AI Act

You receive a clear explanation of the AI Act and the main legal points of attention. We look at how the AI Act is structured, which objectives the regulation pursues and how this framework interacts with GDPR.

Part 3 – Data and technology

In this part, you explore the technological foundations of AI. You learn more about AI architecture, data models, data use and how AI systems are developed and deployed. This enables you, as a DPO, to have more meaningful conversations with AI and IT experts.

Part 4 – Risk and governance models

AI requires clear governance and a strong risk approach. You learn which risks are linked to AI applications and how to assess, monitor and manage them within your organisation.

Part 5 – AI meets GDPR: case study

Through a concrete case study, you examine where AI and data protection intersect. You look at lawfulness, transparency, data minimisation, purpose limitation, data subject rights and other privacy questions that may arise in AI applications.

Part 6 – Hands-on risk-based approach

The training ends with a practical application of the risk-based approach. You learn how to critically assess AI applications and which questions you should ask as a DPO to clarify risks, responsibilities and necessary measures.

These trainings qualify for several grants. A practical instrument enabling you to pay only part of the registration fee.

This training is organised in collaboration with Data Protection Institute.

This training does not include a classic examination. A knowledge test is available on the learning platform. Participants receive a certificate of attendance after the training.

Questions can be submitted in advance. Where possible and where they fit the scope of the training, they will be addressed during the sessions.
